Queen of the Ice Lands - Xelha Empty Queen of the Ice Lands - Xelha

Post by Adri Mon Aug 12, 2019 12:57 pm

    Appeared In:
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean

    Name:
    Xelha

    Age:
    22

    Gender:
    Female

    Appearance:
    Xelha
    Wings

    Personality:
"O Mighty Ocean, guide us as we journey through...the darkest pit of night..."

Xelha is kind-hearted, gentle and empathic, but also courageous and determined, bearing a strong sense of duty. Though somewhat naive, she is far from gullible, preparing herself for just about anything and showing her suspicions when faced with someone not so trustworthy. When around her close friends or people she can trust, Xelha can be very coy and playful, countering with Kalas' bitter sarcasm when they're together. Though they often bicker like a married couple, she stands beside her one-winged companion whenever in need, standing up to those who would criticize him in any way.

As a queen, Xelha has a great deal of charisma, always finding the right words to say in certain situations. This can verge on outright manipulation to get what she wants, though it's never meant for any harm. Even when she's out in the worlds and away from her throne, she'll put up an authoritative front when the need calls for it, often taking the lead when traveling in a group. However, Xelha prefers to keep her crown a secret, wanting to be seen as a person rather than the powerful figure that she is and refusing any sort of formality shown to her. Though despite this, even she can't help some slight bits of conceitedness here and there.

    Powers:

As a mage, Xelha has the ability to channel all of the six elements of her world (Light, Dark, Fire, Water, Wind, and Chronos) and control them through her wand. Like everything else in the world of Baten Kaitos, these spells come in the form of Magnus for her to use. The effectiveness of these spells are heightened if the enemy is of the opposing element, and lessened if they're the same. Xelha retains her higher-level spell cards, though the use of her magic had been weakened following her revival.

Because of her association with magic, Xelha is sensitive to places that hold a strong amount of it, feeling negative energies or sensing a binding spell. This extends to people that have a different aura about them; this is how she was able to sense Kalas' unnatural, but powerful soul. Her magic also allows a sense of premonition, dreaming of things to come, or things that are already happening in that moment. As prayers are known to be very powerful in the world of Baten Kaitos, Xelha's own prayer is especially strong, able to release the life essence of the fallen and allow their souls to pass on in peace.

Like Kalas, Xelha has gained back her Wings of the Heart from the effects of the Convergence, allowing her an extensive use of flight. This also helps with her quick speed, due to the lightness of her gossamer wings. Like with Kalas, her heart's power has also been enhanced to use her wings longer than she normally would, though would still run out of energy should she have them out for too long.

Xelha still has a residual essence of the Ocean within her, even after releasing it back to her world. She's highly attuned to any forms of water, such as lakes or other oceans depending on the world. She could also channel this essence to purify herself and her allies, healing them and clearing any status effect they may have, and can send it the enemy's way in short bursts of water. This connection with the Ocean is strengthened with Meemai's help, her Greythorne companion acting as her connection to the Great Whale itself.

Among the use of her spells, Xelha also has a unique set of arcane attacks, stronger than her regular spells. She retains each and every one of them, though like with her normal magic, they have been weakened after her revival. These types of spells, unlike her normal magic, have their own Magnus Power costs, as they require more focus than regular spells.

    List of arcane spells

    • Dance of Light: Sends a shower of purifying light from her wings onto the enemy. (MP Level: 1)

    • Sparkle of Life: Infuses Meemai with light energy and sends him flying, smashing into the enemy like a projectile. (MP Level: 1)

    • Soul Flash: Raises Meemai into the air, channeling her power through him and releasing a rain of exploding light spheres upon the enemy. (MP Level: 1)

    • Dancing Flames: Summons a volley of fireballs that converge on the enemy before exploding. (MP Level: 2)

    • Dark Embrace: Summons dark spheres that spiral downwards onto the enemy, exploding into dark energy upon impact. (MP Level: 2)

    • Whispering Wind: Brings about wind spirits in the form of butterflies, swirling around the enemy in a ferocious gust. (MP Level: 2)

    • Bells of Fate: Summons a great clock with six bells, symbolizing the essence of time that is released onto the enemy when the clock strikes midnight. (MP Level: 2)

    • Seal of Water: Unleashes the essence of the Mighty Ocean within her, engulfing the enemy in a large column of water. (MP Level: 3)

    • Wheel of Light: Summons numerous spheres of light that surround and instantaneously collide upon the enemy. The light remnants rejoin together from above, and then smash downwards in a final, destructive attack. (MP Level: 3)

    Abilities:

Like a typical black mage, Xelha's defense is a weak point for her. However, she makes up for it with a great deal of agility, being very quick and light on her feet, verging on dance-like movements in battle. With her wings giving her balance, Xelha is capable of parkour-like movements such as running up building walls.

As stated, Xelha has a tendency to prepare for anything, a trait that was passed on from her mother. This includes sending subjects out the minute something dangerous is about to come, placing intricate illusion spells on important items to keep them from being stolen, and keeping important artifacts that would later be used to counter any sort of attack that would come. However, this can fall apart if something she couldn't foresee comes her way, rendering her helpless until she gets her act back together.

Outside of battle, Xelha is a very good figure skater thanks to growing up in a land of snow and ice, allowing her to walk on ice with relative ease. She's also a really good cook, factoring into her "team mom" status.

    Weapons:
A wand to channel her magic through. Though she occasionally uses it like a staff to fight with, she relies on her spells for the most part.

    Equipment:

    • Earth Sphere: One of the three sacred artifacts used during the War of the Gods, this pendant originally belonged to the Children of the Earth until it was stolen from them, and came into Xelha's possession after stealing it from Emperor Geldoblame. Though its power has been used up in Malpercio's defeat, the Earth Sphere has become further connected to Xelha, having carried her soul before she was revived by the Great Whale.

    • Ocean Mirror: Another of the sacred artifacts, the mirror was given to the royal family of Wazn by the wizards of old and passed down for many generations. Like the Earth Sphere, its power has been used up; Xelha has instead blessed the mirror to allow her to contact her witch guardians, keeping track of her kingdom while she's out traveling the worlds.

    • Magnus: As with Kalas, Xelha has her own set of Magnus that she carries with her.
    • - Offensive: As stated, these come in the form of her spells, treated as regular attack cards and thus not needing any sort of mana to use them. Xelha also carries small items like knives to throw at the enemy.
    • - Defensive: These come in the form of very light pieces of armor, robes, and hoods for her to use. However, as these come in a rarity, she focuses on dodging enemy attacks with her speed rather than blocking attacks.
    • - Equipment: For Xelha, these come in the form of anklets. She has plenty for use; at the moment, she's equipped with the Powder Snow Anklet.
    • - Healing: Though she has her own form of healing magic, Xelha still carries these just in case.
    • - Blank: Xelha uses these in the case that she needs to carry something otherwise not used for combat, like the food that she cooks. She also uses these to perform the standard "fetch quest" for some people, much to Kalas' chagrin.

    Awareness:
Like Kalas, she knows about the other worlds, but not of their nature as games made reality.

    History:

Xelha is the latest Queen of the Ice Lands of Wazn, and would've been the last. Since the islands' ascent to the Sky, the royal lineage of Ice Queens have had the Mighty Ocean sealed within them by the ancient wizards, protecting it from the tainted Earth and passing it on through the generations. They held an oath: should the islands in the Sky ever return to the once fertile lands below, they would sacrifice their lives to release the Ocean from their being and return it to the restored Earth.

As a child, Xelha was instructed of this fate by her mother, Queen Nadia, who also left her with several instructions in the case a great peril would be predicted by the witches of Wazn. Although Xelha accepted her role as the future Ice Queen, promising her mother that she would protect the Ocean and release it should the task fall to her, Nadia had hoped that she herself would be the one to fulfill her destiny, wanting for Xelha to live her life like a normal girl.

Unfortunately, that would not come to pass. In an attempt to pass a trial that would cement her status as the last Ice Queen, Nadia had failed, weakened and on death's door. The Ocean was passed on to Xelha and sealed within her before she passed away, sealing her daughter's fate as the last of the Ice Queens.

Inheriting her title as Queen, Xelha was raised by the royal nanny and head witch Barnette, along with fellow witches Kodelle, Glamyss, and Catranne. Though the young girl had come to accept her role as she had promised her mother, there were times where she struggled with the burden, even rebelling against it much to her guardians' frustration. However, two occurrences in the outside world; both of which were tied to the resurrection of Malpercio, the ancient god of destruction; would lead the heroine to set out on her perilous quest.

The first was the revival of Melodia, the duchess of Mira, by the power of the End Magnus, sensed as small ripples that would spread out into something dangerous. To this, Xelha ordered for Barnette to send out the three witches under the guise of old fortune-tellers in order to monitor the world and report back on any strange findings. Though at first turning up with nothing, it was two years prior that Barnette sensed the next occurrence: the alliance of Melodia and Kalas, two who were not meant to meet, foretelling dark times ahead.

At the same time, Xelha was haunted by a dream that made her lose all of her magic power, one that motivated her to set out on her quest as she had promised her late mother. Though it was thought that she predicted the end of the world, it was in fact a dream about Kalas, in the heart of a dark forest, crying and holding someone close. It was her sympathy and empathy for this young man that drove the Ice Queen to start her journey.

Taking two bodyguards with her, Xelha first headed for the Alfard Empire, having heard rumors of Emperor Geldoblame's plans to unleash an ancient evil. Not knowing who to trust in the outside world, she went incognito in order to protect her identity, posing as a maid and finding work in the Imperial Fortress. For two years, she remained beneath suspicion while she spied on the Emperor, discovering his plans to unseal End Magnus and obtain the cursed power of Malpercio. With a new objective to stop him, Xelha stole a pendant that seemed important to his plans, and fled the Empire when she was found out.

After making her escape, she headed for Sadal Suud, where she heard of a fearsome power sealed away in the ruins of the Moonguile Forest. It was there that she found the boy from her dream two years ago, overhearing his plans with Melodia and witnessing them zapping his Guardian Spirit's memory. Though at first believing him to be a pawn of the Empire sent to capture her, she later found that things were a lot more complicated than they seemed to be. Along with her current quest, she set upon herself to guide Kalas away from the dark path that he set himself upon, and to help her in her quest to save the world from potential destruction.

Of course, their proper introduction was...less than ideal. Losing her bodyguards to a monster in the forest, she had mourned their deaths only for Kalas to rob from them right in front of her, insulting her when she rightly called him out for this. Despite being appalled by his rude and uncaring behavior, Xelha still saw some good in him when he came to her rescue after she'd been captured by Imperial soldiers, even if it simply coincided with his interests. Though refusing to aid her in her quest to save the world, she still convinced him that they should stick together on the grounds that their goals led them in the same direction.

And so the two heroes, plus the Spirit bonded to Kalas, joined forces on their separate quests: Xelha's in searching for the End Magnus to put a stop to Geldoblame's plans, and Kalas' to avenge the deaths of his grandfather and little brother. Along the way, others joined her cause to save the world for varying reasons, the young woman bonding with her companions over the course of her journey. Her friendship with Kalas had also become more amiable, giving her hope that maybe, just maybe, he would become the hero that she wanted him to be.

But, ultimately, that would not be the case. In spite of their best efforts, all five of the End Magnus ended up in Geldoblame's possession, the Emperor unleashing their power and turning himself into a monster. Though he was defeated, he was merely a pawn for Melodia, the real mastermind behind this. And in spite of all of Xelha's hopes, Kalas revealed himself to have been working for the duchess all along. Ignoring the young woman's pleading, he turned his back on the allies he made, including his own Guardian Spirit, for the power of the ancient gods within the End Magnus, granting him two beautiful wings as he always desired. The Spirit was then rejected from his being, his former companions taken prisoner by the Empire that was now under Melodia's control.

The End Magnus had been released, Malpercio's resurrection well underway. Kalas had turned to the dark forces, corrupting his mind slowly. And Xelha was locked within the dungeons of the Imperial Fortress, separated from her friends whilst they were taken elsewhere. All hope seemed to be lost, the Ice Queen on the verge of giving up her resolve.

However, a glimmer of hope had shone in her darkest hour. Audrey, the Guardian Spirit, had found her in her despair. With their shared sadness and hope to set things right, the spirit of the displaced girl bonded with her instead, giving her the strength and motivation to go on. Not only did this restore her resolve, but by bonding with the Spirit, the Ice Queen realized that those who were born for a great purpose, who fell into despair, could become a Spiriter. This proved to her that despite their many differences, she and Kalas were more alike than they thought, giving her hope that she could save him.

Xelha escaped the Empire with Audrey's help, going on to save the rest of her friends that were trapped in interdimensional prisons within each Nation. In order to find a way to stop Malpercio's revival, and to save Kalas from the darkness, she came to the conclusion of returning to Wazn along with her companions. It was there that Xelha finally revealed herself to be the Ice Queen, explaining to her friends the true story behind her quest.

A trial was prepared for her soon after, the very same one that her mother had gone through and failed. A trial that would test her power as the last of the Ice Queens, in order to receive the Ocean Mirror; one of the three sacred artifacts that would be used to repel the destructive powers of the End Magnus and prevent the god's resurrection. This trial would turn out to be a one-on-one fight between Xelha and the Goddess of Ice; a being comprised of the spirits of the previous Ice Queens, including her mother; to test her worth.

Ultimately, where Nadia had failed so long ago, Xelha had passed, receiving the mirror from the spirit of her mother before she faded away. With Barnette reassuring that the artifact could be used to save Kalas as well, they were ready to head for the Empire one last time, to stop the rebirth of the god of destruction and to bring their hero back to his senses. Taking off upon the White Dragon; the last surviving dragon in the world, that Xelha had a connection with; Xelha and her friends headed back for Alfard. However, unbeknownst to them, their arrival was yet another part of Melodia's plan falling into place.

Arriving at the heart of the Imperial Fortress, the party of five confronted Kalas and Melodia. Though the "angel" refused to be saved, Xelha didn't back down, resolving to pull him out of the darkness as a battle broke out between them. The heroes stood victorious, but only for a short while, as Melodia revealed the last piece needed to resurrecting Malpercio: the web of trust and camaraderie from five unsuspecting mortals. The End Magnus began to drain power from the five heroes; however, Xelha fought back and pulled out the Ocean Mirror. She turned it on Kalas, hoping that it would save him like Barnette told her.

To her dismay, her nanny had lied to her, giving her false hope so she wouldn't give up on her quest. Instead of saving him, the sacred powers of the mirror slowly burned him to death. Unable to carry out the deed, a distraught Xelha was forced to give up, the mirror destroyed by Melodia right after. With that last bit of hope lost, the last of their power drained away, the power locked within the End Magnus was finally unsealed after a whole millennium. Against Xelha's wishes, Malpercio, the ancient god of destruction, had been reborn...

But, even after the mirror nearly killed him, it turned out that Kalas was still brought back to his senses. Too weak to do anything herself, Xelha watched as, through the force of his own will, Kalas tore out the wing he had been "blessed" with, restoring him back to his original self and severing the god's influence over him.

However, not only did Melodia and Malpercio escape in the aftermath, but the one-winged boy had fallen into a nightmare. Doing everything she could to wake him, Xelha had suddenly found herself in his dream, a dormant power within her Guardian Spirit pulling them in. There, they witnessed his last memories with his grandfather and little brother, chasing after him as he fell into darkness. Battling against the Nightmare that had taken over, Xelha, with Audrey's help, pulled Kalas out of the last traces of darkness left behind, rescuing him for good. After a...violent bit of retribution from Audrey, it was here that Kalas not only apologized to his Spirit for using her the way he did, but also to the Ice Queen for the way he treated her, opening up that it was her prayer that saved him.

As they awoke from the ordeal, Kalas had received forgiveness from the rest of their allies, returning to the side of good. And as Xelha witnessed, her efforts in guiding him were not in vain; the one-winged hero was a changed man, refusing to leave anyone to die for the sake of saving the world. With Audrey bonding back to him, the heroes went on to find a way to stop Melodia and Malpercio in bringing about the end of the world.

During the time when they were preparing for the final assault, the Ice Queen discovered an ancient book of magic left behind by her ancestors. The power within the book transported her and her friends into an illusory fortress, and her worth as the last of the Ice Queens was once again tested by the spirits within. Again, she had passed, receiving a spell that would prove to be useful in their quest.

However, as the final battle drew near, Xelha knew that her fate as the last of the Ice Queens would come through. With the bonds of friendship that she made, and the feelings that she developed for Kalas growing stronger, she was faced with a difficult decision.

In the end, as the heroes finally faced Malpercio within the Cor Hydrae castle, they prevailed, saving their world from destruction. After Kalas, Audrey, and a purified Melodia used their power to defeat the god, Xelha prayed her homeland's prayer, releasing the five souls that made up the cursed being from their torment. She felt their pain and sorrow, and caught a glimpse of the truth: that the five sibling gods weren't truly evil, but tainted souls who only wanted to be put to rest after suffering for so long, and for the world to be saved. And indeed, with the last of the gods' power, the Taintclouds that separated the Sky from the Earth below had finally cleared up, and the islands returned to the fertile lands below. After a millennium, the Earth was whole again.

But for Xelha, the restoration of the world meant that she had to fulfill her final duty. Before doing so, she met with Kalas in the Moonguile Forest, the place where she saw him for the first time. After being confronted on that fact; having made a slip of the tongue at one point in their journey; she revealed the truth to the one-winged hero, on both that time and the truth of her role as the Ice Queen: that the Ocean, long-lost, was sealed within her. However, she also revealed that, with their bonding with the same Guardian Spirit, she needed his and Audrey's help to release it back into the world. Though Kalas at first refused, having fallen for her over the course of their journey, Xelha promised that she wouldn't leave him, even though she wasn't completely sure about her promise. Together, they carried out the final prayer to the world, the Mighty Ocean about to return after so long.

However, they were met with one last, unsuspecting surprise. With what little of the dark power that was left, Geldoblame suddenly appeared before them, fused with the Earth and about to take his revenge on them. However, this confrontation turned out to be very brief, Kalas and Xelha holding their own until the one-winged boy and his Guardian Spirit performed a Spirit Attack to do him in.

It was after the mad Emperor's final defeat, however, that Xelha collapsed into Kalas' arms. With the Ocean about to return, she confessed to the despaired hero about the dream she had of him two years ago, as well her love for him, lamenting that they couldn't be together like she wished. Her body vanished into a rain of salt water that fell all around the Earth, restoring the world to its former glory. Xelha had returned the Mighty Ocean, fulfilling her duty as the last of the Ice Queens.

But, it was not the end of her. As Meemai; a Greythorne that Xelha befriended; fused with all of the other Greythornes to become the Great Whale, they found her soul and placed it in the very pendant that she snatched, working to put her back together in thanks for saving their world. That time came when the pendant was returned to Kalas, after removing the bond with his Guardian Spirit and saying his last goodbyes. In a rush of water flowing out of the pendant, Xelha appeared in a burst, returned to life by the Great Whale as well as fulfilling her promise to Kalas that she wouldn't leave him.

The couple tearfully embraced in their reunion, and Xelha, finding that Audrey had yet to fade from the world, said her last goodbyes and gave her thanks along with her friends. The Spirit had then left the world behind, leaving the memories of their time together with them. The Earth and Ocean had been restored after a thousand years, and against all expectations, Xelha survived to see it through.

With the burden now lifted off of her shoulders, Xelha decided, with the experience she'd gained from her adventure, to begin another journey in their restored world. Despite rumors saying that she gave up her crown and eloped with Kalas, she continued to remain as Queen, enchanting the Ocean Mirror to allow her to keep tabs on her kingdom whilst she ventured out. With Kalas joining her, they explored their new world together on the White Dragon, their growing relationship blossoming further as time went on. Their story came to an end, the happy ending that Xelha always wanted.

That was, until five years later, when strange occurrences suddenly took place in their world. Malleable blocks falling from the Sky, Wings of the Heart returning to some people, including Kalas' one and her fairy-like wings, and attacks by strange creatures of both shadow and featureless white, with a hooded figure sighted in these attacks. And in the midst of it all, Xelha received another nightmare, one that foretold a battle between Light and Darkness, the guardians of the Light falling to the Darkness, and a boy's anguished scream at the loss of his friends.

Unable to set this aside, that dream being the final straw for her, the Ice Queen and her one-winged companion set out to confront the hooded figure in order to make sense of this. However, to their surprise, he appeared before them, explaining that he was only here in search of potential 'lights'. Though cryptic, Xelha had suspected that he was talking about the battle that she witnessed in her dream. Before she could confront him on the matter, the figure was already taking his leave, having no further business with their world. Though they tried to stop him, their attempts only brought the man to knock them to the ground, their power not what it once used to be.

Xelha looked up just in time to find that not only did the hooded man disappear into a strange, dark portal, but that Kalas had impulsively chased after him. Just before it could close, the Ice Queen chased after her beloved in a vain attempt to stop him.

Unfortunately, they had lost track of the man, now trapped in the void between worlds. With the dark energies wearing them down, Xelha lamenting that she would meet her end so soon after coming back, they would've been lost entirely. But then, they were met with a familiar squeak, Meemai suddenly appearing before them. Though a surprise at first, Xelha received images in her mind that explained this: the Great Whale, sensing their danger, sent out a small aspect of itself in the form of their old Greythorne companion. With the little bit of the god's power that he held, Meemai safely transported them out of the void.

The two wound up in another world far from their own, but not on accident. They were sent on a new journey, one that would take place across many worlds to save them from the encroaching darkness, including their own once more. New lands to visited, new faces to meet...and the chance to meet with an old friend of theirs...

    Sample Post:

A deep breath of exhaustion, the battle having taken its toll on her. Fairy-like gossamer wings summoned back for the time being, the young woman slowly recomposing herself.

It was done. Xelha, Queen of the Ice Lands of Wazn, had prevailed the trial that had taken her mother's life. The Ocean Mirror was hers for the taking.

Stepping forward, she looked up to the tall, imposing figure that she had defeated in their magic battle. The Goddess of Ice; a being composed of the spirits of the previous Ice Queens; glanced down at her. Where her previous gaze was cold, befitting her title, her eyes were now filled with a familiar warmth...one that Xelha recognized immediately.

"You have done well," the Goddess praised, her tone of a gentle pride in the young Queen's abilities. She then held a hand out, a small, ornate hand mirror appearing in her palm. "Take the Mirror now...my daughter."

She could hear her companions' voicing their surprise at this, but she paid them no mind. Instead, she took the Ocean Mirror as it descended its way to her, looking into the reflection of the woman with a great burden on her shoulders. She could just feel the holy power brimming within the artifact; this was sure to repel against the dark powers of the End Magnus...

"But...you must be prepared..." The spirit of her mother continued to speak through the Goddess, her voice turning solemn. "For your possession of this Mirror means the time has drawn near...when the Mighty Ocean must be released..."

"..." That's right...her role as the last of the Ice Queens. In the midst of the chaos that had been going on, she'd almost forgotten. Holding the mirror close to her chest, she looked down, closing her eyes. "...Yes...I understand..."

The Goddess nodded to her in understanding, a glimpse of a gentle, encouraging smile. Then, with a mist of cold waving over her, she faded into the icy air, her purpose done for.

Xelha's gaze lingered on the spot where she was, her grip on the mirror held tight. She remembered her last moments with her mother, her preparing for her role should the task fall to her. Her demeanor appearing cold on the surface, one that commanded respect...until she looked to her daughter, with eyes filled with that same gentle, maternal warmth. A comforting hand under her chin to look up at her, listening to what she had to say.

"Xelha...you must follow your own path. Even if you are alone, never back down, never fear, and stride forward with your head held high. The Ocean will always be with you...and we will always be walking alongside..."

"Mother..." She couldn't help the tears in her eyes as she recalled those last words of comfort, her reassuring before she headed for the trial. This prompted Meemai, her Greythorne companion, to hop out of her hood and nuzzle up to her in comfort, giving a soft squeak. Beside her, she could also feel the presence of her Guardian Spirit, feeling her concern.

"...Are you gonna be okay, Xelha?"

A quick nod in response, wiping away the tears that had formed. "Y-Yes, I'll...I'll be fine." Managing a smile, she turned to face her allies, giving a nod. "We have what we came for. Let's head back and let Barnette know that we have the Mirror now."

They made their way back on that note, soon to head back out with the Ocean Mirror in tow. To stop Melodia from unleashing the power of the End Magnus, to stop the birth of the cursed god Malpercio...and to maybe, just maybe, save Kalas from the darkness that took hold of him...

    They had to...right?
