As the title of this thread suggests, this is to go into more detail on what this forum is all about. So without further ado…
What is The Great Convergence?
The Great Convergence, or TGC for short, is a video game crossover RP revolving around the concepts of Kingdom Hearts. Specifically, about dreams being made real from the power of the heart. In this setting, anything is possible if one can just believe in it.
Now you may be wondering, why only video games and not other media, like cartoons or movies? Meta-wise, it’s to limit ourselves to what we can use; there’s only so much fiction that we can use, after all. However, this doesn’t discount the use of liscensed games, even the ones that aren’t that good. It is, however, highly encouraged that you don’t just focus on these.
When does TGC take place in Kingdom Hearts?
The initial idea was to set TGC after Dream Drop Distance, during the long wait for Kingdom Hearts III. However, now that it’s finally been released, it’s been decided that the forum will be taking place after the 2.9 segment and working our way from there. The idea of starting after 3D is still there; some characters may have even been around for longer than that thanks to temporal hiccups.
Do note, however, that this does not mean that we’re covering the entirety of KH3. While some of it may be word for word, we’ll only cover the parts that we want to use. In fact, we may even diverge a little in some parts (ie. actually focusing on the plot of Arendelle instead of keeping it off-screen). The point here is to focus on individual stories of the characters that travel the worlds, how they adjust and progress in entirely new settings, etc.
What games can be used?
Just about any game can be used! Just because we’re a KH-based forum doesn’t mean you can’t use other genres. RPGs of other titles, aforementioned liscensed games, Super Mario Bros, even M-rated games. Anything is possible.
In the case you do use an M-rated game, however, it’s highly advised you stick to the forum rating (PG to PG-13). More on this will be stated in the rules.
How many characters can we have?
Unlike previously, there is no limit to how many characters you can apply for. As long as you can handle them well, you can apply for as many as you want. However, we encourage quality over quantity, so try not to get too overloaded with characters, especially on the kind that you’re never going to use.
Why only a handful of worlds?
Initially, we were going to have every world in the KH series usable. However, we cut down a significant number in order to keep things streamlined and not overly complex. After all, how many people are going to actively visit worlds like 100 Acre Wood?
This doesn’t mean that these other worlds can’t be used at all, however. Like in KH3, there can be times where characters visit worlds that otherwise aren’t listed; this is what the Lesser Used Worlds section is for.
Anything else to keep in mind?
Only to have fun and go nuts! As stated, anything is possible in this setting, as long as you believe with all your heart and yadda yadda yadda, you get the picture.
So without further ado, go on and enjoy yourselves, and may your hearts be your guiding key.
